Where does my donation go?
If you have sponsored a horse directly, your funds will go toward the costs for the food, hoof trimming medication and general care of that horse.
If you have made a general support donation to Zia Sanctuary, the funds will be used for the care of the herd, the pastures, horse transport, rescue expenses, hoof trimming and medication.
We keep admin expenses to a minimum and have no paid staff. Services provided by Parkland Ranch, trimming, medications, training, are provided at cost.
To give you some idea of costs we incur through the year:
Hoof trimming – $300/year per horse
Deworming – $30/year per horse
Food/year – $1500/year per horse (Seniors $2000/yr)
Supplements – $50/year per horse
Medication Range – $100 to $1000/ year per horse
Can I visit the Sanctuary?
The Sanctuary has a home at Parkland Ranch. You may book a room anytime and spend time at the ranch, spend time with the horses and see the life we provide for our animals.
Also, many of our sponsorship programs include free weekends at Parkland Ranch.
I want to stop my sponsorship. How do I do that?
We realize lives change and sponsoring a horse may not always be as easy as when it was initiated. You may cancel at any time, simply by contacting us.
What happens if the animal I am supporting has to be put down?
It is unfortunate but sometimes the best option is put down a horse. If you have sponsored the horse, you may elect to sponsor another horse, make a general support donation, or cancel your sponsorship.
What else can I do?
Share what we are doing on Social Media.[ ADD LINKS] We hope that others will better understand how many horses are in this situation and decide to help out, either through Zia Sanctuary or other farm/horse sanctuaries. If we have a lot of people doing what they can we can change the situation for these animals.
How do you decide what animals to take in?
Our focus is on horses that are in need of a better life. They are either in a home that doesn’t or can’t care for them properly, or the owners have given up on them.
How do you rescue horses?
The horses at Zia Sanctuary have come from all different kinds of homes. Some have been dropped off because people don’t want them anymore. The majority have been rescued after we receive phone calls about a neglected or feral horse.
Are the horses ridden at Zia Sanctuary?
Yes, some of them. Any riding of horses at Zia Sanctuary for training is done without bits or spurs in the Gentle Way. We only train them when we feel that the horse is comfortable with it and they are sound and healthy. For more information on the Gentle Way go to: Parklandranch.com
Are there other forms of support that I can provide?
We are in constant need of equipment, feed, vet services and supplies. If this is something that you can donate, please contact us to discuss the details.
